Agriculture Decision Support System(ADSS), since its inception aims; first, to organize the immense agro-data, gathered by state run organizations; and next to facilitate its swift transmission to the concerned communities including: e.g. policy/decision makers, analysts, academia etc. To achieve the aim, with consensus of agriculture domain experts, 1st agro informatics workshop, was held on 9th Sep 2006. The workshop proved to be a platform from where the idea of compiling the user requirements was generated.The participants of the workshop were given a questionnaire: devised to assess their requirements. Next, ‘Team C@IR’ and some domain experts reviewed and compiled the received requirements. The compiled user requirements were analyzed by using different tools to find out facts about cotton pest and crop management, based on the data gathered in the year 2001 from District Multan. The ultimate outcome of the process was the realization of a need for the development of two applications: Macro and LAN enabled Micro.
ADSS Micro provides a digitized and standardized agriculture analysis based on the available historical data.It facilitates two types of users: LAN user and administrator. LAN user is able to access application through a web address. In the navigation bar, on homepage, five groups headings: Farmer, Insects, Pesticides, Variety and Weather are given. These fivegroups are further categorized into 21 questions; however, in navigation bar only question titles are given. Selection of a title opens a window where the related question and parameter grid appear to facilitate users in graph generating process. Administrator evaluates user requests, update existing users and block/unblock web users. New users are assigned roles, which define their access rights. A confirmation/denial mail containing user login info or disapproval letter is sent to users.
